MY HERO IS ME - "THE CRY WOLF BROADCAST"
written by Scoob
My Hero Is Me hails from Wilmington, NC and has yet to make their way out to the west coast but be prepared for when they do. The band has established an unequaled sound blending a Led Zeppelin esq blues rock with hardcore and metal. The band is composed of six members, three of those being guitar players and a sole front man. The music is pure unbridled, adrenaline fueled, groove oriented, raw in your face, melodic mayhem. Not only is the music amazing but the song titles and lyrics are clever and catchy. How can a band go wrong with song titles like, “When Peter North Goes South,” “Taylor Rain (On My Parade),” “Be Well, John Spartan,” “I Studied Metal at Julliard,” and “Rated R For Rambunctious,” which is one of my personal favorites. Vocalist Daryl G. sings on the chorus, “Tonight I’m yours, take my hand. I’ll be your fire baby, I’m your man. I’ll make it hot, that’s what I’ll do. Just remember baby, this is for me and never you.” I find these lyrics wonderful because these guys are not regurgitating the same old vegan straightedge nonsense that we hear so much from bands similar in style. I find this band to be very true to themselves and with a song such as “Rated R For Rambunctious,” it is as if they are paying a small tribute to the 80s hair metal bands.
From start to finish, The Cry Wolf Broadcast, never has a dull moment. My Hero Is Me’s songs have a little something for everyone ranging from blast beats, to heavy grooves, sweeping arpeggios, to melodic breakdowns, the intensity never stops. If Sylvester Stallone approached me and said he was training hard for the next Rocky movie and he needed a CD to listen to in the gym, this is what I would hand him.
