On tap for today’s gear review is the Taylor Standard Electric (?!) Guitar . Since when does Taylor make electric guitars?? Figure I might as well try it. I like Taylor acoustic guitars. My philosophy is if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. It’s like hearing that Martin has come out with a flying V?! Craziness. I plugged it into a Marshall JCM800 half stack to try it out. Yes, the guitar does sound pretty nice. The pickups offer a good amount of sustain. I am not sure if I dig the “single bolt T-lock neck joint.” The whole thing is confusing to me. Make up your mind Taylor – do you want to make acoustic guitars or electric? Set neck or bolt on? I am at a loss. The bottom line with this guy is that if you want a tried and true electric guitar – buy a Les Paul. If you want to buy an acoustic guitar, Taylor makes a lovely line of high quality instruments.
