RX Bandits Interview with Chris Sheets
By The Rockvine
Scoob had a nice talk with Chris Sheets. It's kind of a funky interview but it's a fun one.

For those of you who aren't familiar, the RX Bandits are a great band with their roots in Punk and Ska, but they've developed over the years into a very progressive and technically proficient band.

Check them out at www.Myspace.com/RXBandits
RV: Any pre-show rituals you do before a show to get hyped up?

CS: [Holds up a Corona] This is about as much of a pre-show ritual as it gets. Anything in bottles I guess. We just try to chill back pretty hardcore and get stoked watching the bands.

RV: You play trombone – any other instruments?

CS: Yah, I play trumpet, a little bit of drums and I mess around with everything else – I like music in general.

RV: What is your favorite 80’s Madonna song?

CS: They’re all so fun and great.

RV: My personal favorite is lucky star.

CS: Why?

RV: I don’t know man I just went blank. I just like the beat.

RV: True or False – is Dazed and Confused in your top 5 moves?

CS: No… False

RV: What Primetime TV show are you looking forward to in the upcoming season.

CS: The Arrested Development Movie - I’m not looking forward to anything on TV. I just want to see the Arrested Development movie which I hear is coming out.

RV: What is currently in your CD player.

CS: Well I have a 51 CD holder so there’s a lot in there – Right now I have A Love Supreme is my wake-up song in my alarm. There’s a lot of stuff in there, Jazz and some pop and stuff. Kind of a weird selection since I move from place to place and having an iPod – CDs get misplaced and I end up having what I have and finding some old stuff that I listened to many, many years ago and rehashing.

RV: Would you say that the band (RX Bandits) has gotten more progressive over the years?

CS: Very much so, yeah. I would say we have. From kind of ska/punk roots to much more tech/progressive basically. It comes through in the music and you definitely hear the progression.

RV: Are you involved in the Sound of Animals Fighting?

CS: No, not on recordings, just live. That’s not my schtick, but it’s cool stuff.

RV: If you could record a song with any pop-star, who would it be?
CS: We’re all really huge Ashlee Simpson Fans….No… not really. I wouldn’t mind doing something with like Norah Jones or someone like that – not really a pop star I guess. Joanna Newsome?

RV: How long have you been on the road this time out?

CS: This is Week 5.

RV: And who’s been on the road with you?

CS: We’ve got Portugal. The Man who’s been amazing support this whole tour, and KK and his Weathered Underground. All the bands have been an incredible line-up from front to back.

RV: How far does this tour go?

CS: We’ve got tonight, tomorrow in San Diego and two nights in Tempe. It’s the end of our national tour.

RV: What should we expect from you guys through the end of the year?

CS: We expect to relax for a while and then get back to writing some music and work some shit out. We’ve got a bunch of tunes we’ve been working on and it’s just a matter of getting back together. Maybe a hiatus for a while but I doubt it.

RV: There’s hopes of another record?

CS: Yah – there’s always hope. We’d like to release something soon, but we’re not going to rush it.
