"Chosen Son as a band just started to form about a year ago. Chosen Son as a concept started about a few years back while I was on tour playing drums, says frontman/singer/songwriter John Allen. "I realized that banging on a non-melodic instrument was only going to influence our music to a certain degree. So, I wrote a bunch of songs, played all the instruments, except for a few, and made a video." While attending one of the band's shows WIYY 98 ROCK MD/APD Rob Heckman said he wanted to add the song "Let's Rock-N-Roll" and we said HELL YES!!! The song wound up TOP TEN for a few months. "I mean the song wasn't even available for release yet! and we are in medium rotation!" A label partnership may lead to greater things but for John it's not about glamour. "It's just back to the basics... rocking the fuck out! I just want to get in a van and play music. I would love to play all over the globe - no matter if it's for 50,000 or 50 people. I can't wait to step out on stage behind the microphone instead of being behind the drumkit. Just doing the music that I love with good friends, that's the most important thing to me right now." Joining John onstage is Jason Heiser on drums and longtime friends and former bandmates Nick Kay, Anthony Arambula and brother Vic Karrera on guitar, bass and guitar respectively.
Chosen Son's music has been described by www.away-team.com magazine as: " ...this killer new band that resembles Jet on an asphalt diet with a little Iggy Pop & The Stooges thrown in for extra salt! Chosen Son is every bit as relevant as bands like The White Stripes, The Hives, and the aforementioned Jet are today, but they have an appealing and very edgy punk tendency to them that makes them a bit more enjoyable for harder rockers like myself. (Their music) is a road paved with nothing but an alcohol induced, shit-kicking, tire burning bar fight that would make Jack Nicholson piss his pants! But more than anything else, it's bringing back the raw, unbridled stuff that made music fun in the late 70's and early 80's. John has forged a killer lineup from veteran talent that equals his brilliance as a songwriter and lead vocalist. Check out this cool collection of punk-n-roll mayhem".
This is what NIKKI SIXX has to say about Chosen Son:
What about Chosen Son out of Baltimore?
That band to me has that almost adolescent, raw energy that is so missing in a lot of the bands I'm hearing on the radio right now. Hearing them for the first time I went, "Okay, I want to hear this on the radio," and I think if I do, a lot of people do. A lot of people I've played songs for say, "Where have these guys been hiding?"
We are so stoked to finally have our video finished for our first single "Let's Rock N Roll". The song and video are really about struggling to make it as a band in the music business. It's about never giving up - even if things aren't easy. It's about basically being a "Lifer" for music.
We can't tell you how many flyers(handbills) and posters we've put out over the years... We can't tell you how many hole in the wall clubs we've played. We can't tell you how many crappy band vans we've had along the way (I bought even one for $25!!!!). But, we can tell you that for that one hour up on stage, it doesn't matter how much shit you've had to take - because those few precious moments up there washes all of it away. It makes it worth it. When the house lights go down and the crowd comes up - the adrenaline surge makes you forget anything negative that you have dealt with along the way. Seeing people sing your songs back to you - even before your record is out - makes it worth it. Meeting new people at the shows, meeting the kid who is at his first concert and is now hooked for life - that makes it worth it!
For us what makes those times even better is that you have your good friends playing in your band also. Nick and I are practically brothers and Anthony and Vic are brothers who we've known for a long ass time. The new kid I guess is Jason, and we've known him now for a quite a few years... We've been playing together now for almost 2 years and it just keeps getting better. We can't wait to get on the road this summer. There are some really cool things in the works and it looks like we might be headed out to every nook and cranny in the US!
