SOUND AND FURY - "18"
SOUND AND FURY is all about power chords and no-bullshit rock 'n roll, total sonic assault. Founded by frontman Luke Metcalf with a desire to create stripped down straight up whiskey drinking rock nâ roll, he recruited guitarists Daz and Griffin, ex- Age of Electric bassist John Kerns, and drummer Chris Avalos, to play the music he lives to create. In addition to perfectly capturing their raw rock nâ roll power on the album, the group has been gaining fans by the truckload by opening up for Canadaâs leading pop-punk band, Sum 41, throughout the great white north (as well as the U.K.). The band is slated to head out on the road with Less Than Jake in July and a run through Canada with Airbourne in August.
BUCKCHERRY has set "Black Butterfly" as the title of its new album, which is expected to be released on September 23. The Japanese version of the CD — the artwork for which can be viewed below — will arrive on August 27.
BUCKCHERRY released "15" just over two years ago, beginning a comeback that saw the band play 300 shows, sell over one million copies of the record, and earn five hit singles after being all but defunct five years ago.
BUCKCHERRY has just kicked off "Crüe Fest," the summer-long package tour headlined by MÖTLEY CRÜE. Keith Nelson told The Pulse of Radio a few weeks ago why he was looking forward to the trek. "MÖTLEY CRÜE is really one of those bands that I think is so ahead of the curve," he said. "For us to be out on the road with them with this package I think is really cool because you're getting a lot of different rock bands. You're getting a band like us, which I don't think there's anything out there quite like us, and you're getting a band like PAPA ROACH, which I think is probably the best band of the early new millenium bands. Throw in TRAPT, who's great, who's had a lot of success, and the SIXX: A.M. guys, and it's just, it is a rock 'n' roll festival."
"Crüe Fest" will hit over 40 cities, closing out on August 31 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with other featured bands PAPA ROACH, TRAPT and CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx's side project, SIXX: A.M.
Check out the interview with Chris Taylor Brown from Trapt in today's Sarasota Herald Tribune previewing Crüe Fest today in Tampa.
The alt-metal quartet frontman talks about the overwhelming success of topping Billboards modern-rock charts, the anticipation of the upcoming release "Only Through The Pain" to hit stores August 5th, and their introduction to Crüefest at Tampa’s Ford Amphitheatre at 5 p.m. today, featuring Mötley Crüe, Papa Roach, Buckcherry and Sixx:A.M.
On Tuesday, at the Maryland Heights, Missouri, stop of this summer's Warped Tour, Gym Class Heroes lead singer Travis McCoy was arrested and charged with third-degree assault after he allegedly struck a member of the audience in the head with his microphone. McCoy was released Wednesday morning (July 2) on $500 bond, and there's no word yet on when he'll have to return to the municipality to answer to the charge.
Eagan did confirm that the incident was racially motivated, but added that the alleged victim "and the artist are of the same race."
The band's manager, Bob McLynn, released a statement Wednesday afternoon that reads: "Somebody in the crowd was taunting Travis with racial slurs. Travis invited him onstage with the intent of calling him out in front of the crowd, with absolutely no intention of a physical altercation. When he tried to help him onstage, the guy hit Travis in the knee area (which has been in a brace because of a recent sprain), forcing Travis to defend himself. At this point, a scuffle broke out.
"This whole incident is unfortunate," the statement continues. "Travis McCoy and Gym Class Heroes are anything but violent. Their message is about racial unity and having a good time. It's amazing that in 2008, there are still people out there that would say such ignorant things. Travis is deeply upset that this happened, and has expressed his apologies to the band's fans that were at the show, [tour organizer] Kevin Lyman, and the Vans Warped Tour. GCH is putting this behind them and looks forward to seeing everyone on the rest of the tour."
Sixx:A.M. embarks on the first tour of their career on Crüe Fest beginning on Tuesday, July 1. The summer's most decadent rock festival kicked off in West Palm Beach and also includes Mötley Crüe, Buckcherry, Papa Roach and Trapt. Sixx:A.M. was conceived by Nikki Sixx, James Michael and DJ Ashba as an all-star studio band to create the soundtrack to Sixx's New York Times bestselling book "The Heroin Diaries: A Year In The Life Of A Shattered Rock Star," which details Sixx's crippling drug addiction and the recovery that followed. Since releasing "The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack" in August of 2007, the first single, "Life Is Beautiful," reached #1 at Mainstream Rock, becoming the biggest hit on rock radio in 2008; the band is halfway to earning a gold record and will next go to radio with the track "Tomorrow." The New York Post described "The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack" as "A modern-day rock opera based on his time in hell."

"One of my favorite parts of being a rock photographer is the final moments before the show. There is a certain electricity that is present when a band walks from their dressing room to the stage. You can feel the power of this electricity increase with each step as the band gets closer and closer to the stage. The energy must have been contagious because even I got caught up in the moment…"
