We do, from time-to-time, get questions from our viewers. While, I understand we're not quite big enough to be 'verbed' (IE to Rockvine, doesn't mean anything while to Google does), I figured some people need a How-To guide to learn just how interactive and fun this site can be. Leave a comment if you have any questions at all.
Q: What is the Rockvine?A: The Rockvine is an INTERACTIVE, online Rock magazine owned and operated by Eleven Seven Music. Eleven Seven Music is the record label responsible for releasing bands like Motley Crue, Buckcherry, Sixx:A.M., Drowning Pool and Trapt.
Q: How is the Rockvine interactive?A: Nearly EVERYTHING on this site allows you to comment - look at the bottom of each news story, blog entry, interview and review and you will see a link that says "comments." Click on that and leave as many comments as you want. We also have a Forum where you can start threads and discuss whatever you want. WE DON'T CARE WHAT YOU SAY! As long as it isn't racist, sexist or any other "ist" that take away from the fun of Rock, you're free to say what you want.
A Part 2: You may read SPIN, Rolling Stone or any other music magazine and send letters to the editor and MAYBE it''ll get printed and MAYBE you'll hear back. But the Rockvine INVITES you to e-mail us reviews, comments, stories, ideas, and anything else and we'll actually pay attention and respond. E-mail Editor@TheRockvine.com with anything you can think of that has to do with Rock. Write your own stories and reviews and send them in - I'll publish them and give you credit if they're any good.Q: I've signed up for your newsletter like 20 times and NOTHING. What's up with that?A: The most common reason people who sign up for our newletter don't receive their updates is they don't confirm the subscription. The Rockvine is VERY respectful of your privacy and your inbox and we don't want to overload people with newsletters or allow people to wrongfully sign up others who don't want to participate. For that reason, you receive a confirmation e-mail after signing up for the newsletter and you MUST CLICK THE LINK TO CONFIRM YOUR SUBSCRIPTION OR YOU WILL NOT BE SIGNED UP. Happens every day and I can see all the names of the people who sign up but don't click - makes me sad....
Q: Do I have to log-in to interact?A: No. You will be asked to pick a "guest" name and leave an e-mail address. That e-mail address goes nowhere as far as I know so don't worry about SPAM. You can also just e-mail me your thoughts at
Editor@TheRockvine.com. If it's worth printing, I'll publish it for you.
Q: It's telling me to log in to Uber... what is Uber?A: Uber is like a free-form version of Myspace. It gives people the tools to make complete websites with only moderate web-design skills and without a professional designer. We have a special hosting deal with Uber that allows us to use our professional skills on their public system - they provide us with all of our interactive elements. If you WANT to become an Uber member, it adds a social networking aspect to the experience. You don't HAVE to do it. Visit
www.Uber.com to join.
Q: You talk a lot of shit. Who do you think you are?A: My name is Jeremy. I am the Managing Editor of the Rockvine. I'm 25 years old and a graduate of the University of Southern California with a degree in Music (specifically Music Business). I'm a bassist and I've been playing music for 11 years (if you want to hear about my band, e-mail me) - I've been managing bands, putting on shows, writing about music and marketing music for 7 years. Eleven Seven Music hired me to run the Rockvine. This is my job - most people do things like this for a hobby... it's my job. Ridiculous, I know. I like puppies, live music and diet soda. If you want to know anything else about me, just ask -
Editor@TheRockvine.com. Q: Does Eleven Seven Music have it's own website?
A
: The only other place to check out Eleven Seven Music online is our Myspace (which I also run).
www.Myspace.com/ElevenSevenMusic
Q: What is an RSS Feed?A: An RSS feed is like a news-ticker that you can use to follow your favorite blog. That way you don't have to actually visit the site unless something you like pops-up in the RSS feed - less work for you. I recommend
www.Netvibes.com for a feed reader. To follow the Rockvine, copy and paste this link into your favorite feed reader: http://www.uber.com/cgi-bin/blogs_rss.cgi?src_entity_id=243783737&coll_id=3
